So many people have been working from home this year. For that reason, the CRA has implemented a flat rate work from home tax deduction. This is a simplified process for writing off home office expenses.

Anyone who worked from home for more than 50% of the time for at least 4 consecutive weeks this year due to COVID-19 is eligible. Employees can claim $2 per day worked from home, up to a total of $400.

Rather than needed a form T2200 as usual, the CRA has created two new simplified forms. One form simplifies the regular home office write off process. The form T777s is a new form what employees fill out without requiring an employer signature.
