The Ontario Tourism and Travel Small Business Support Grant provides a $10,000 – $20,000 grant to eligible businesses. How do you know the amount you will get? Well… the government hasn’t really explained that part.
When the Government rolled out the Ontario Small business support grant, it left the tourism sector a little confused. For that grant, you had to submit your earnings for May of 2019 compared to May of 2020. Well, if you are an amusement park, fry truck, summer run motel, you likely have $0 as the amount for your May earnings. The majority of these tourism businesses run from June – September. The Government recognized this, and created this tourism grant.
“Tax Force, How do I know I am eligible for this?”. Well for starters, if you have already received the Ontario Small Business Support Grant, you cannot receive the Tourism Grant. Basically, the Ontario government will not give you both grants. Second, if you are a new business, you cannot receive the grant either. You have to have opened before 2021. Sorry new business owners. Third, you have to have 99 or fewer employees. Last, you have to have a revenue decline of at least 20%.
If you have any questions about this grant, please reach out to us here at The Tax Force, our team is always here to answer any questions you may have.
